George Spafford over at ITSMWatch.com recently posted a blog entry that asks a very basic question: Are you getting value from ITIL?
… practitioners need to never forget that ITIL is only a tool or a means to an ends. It is should never be a group’s objective to “implement ITIL” as it is not a silver bullet that will solve all of IT’s woes; that simply does not exist. It’s surprising how many executives think that buying a tool or implementing some uncoordinated processes is a sure way of getting benefits.
Yeah, yeah … basic stuff, right? But how many folks out there have found themselves faced with this situation? Bring in an ITIL practitioner and all the problems will go away!
Life of course isn’t so simple. And it’s hard to be the one to tell people that it’s complicated! But sometimes you just gotta do what ya gotta do, right?
